"Newb" printer does not see files on SD card

When i put the SD card in it sees the files that it came with but not the ones i added to it to print. i know they are there because when i put it back into my computer i can see them. Since this method was not working i decided to just try printing from my computer but when i plugged it up my computer said it did not have the driver. i looked online for the driver but could not even find mention of it anywhere. i bought this printer so i could print from SD anyway but cant get that to work. please help, im new to 3d printing and this is a major turn off. i really wanted to join the 3d printing community but perhaps im just not savy enough.

Welcome @MarkMarcum - yes, the learning curve is quite steep indeed for a beginner! I'll try do my best to help.

Many of the early SD cards they sent were corrupted. I recommend formatting the SD card and try again, or try another SD card (32GB or less).

Mac CH340 serial drivers are here. PC CH340 serial drivers are here. On a mac running high-sierra, I had problems with those mac drivers, and I had a more reliable connection with the mac drivers available for purchase (unfortunately… not free, but someone gotta eat) here.

So i have tried a different SD card but that didnt help. I am using Repetier Host as the program I use and Cura as the slicer. using the driver you supplied I was able to get the printer to print one thing while tethered to the laptop and i mean one thing. Now for some reason it wont print anything at all. I slice what i want to print just as before but now the printer just sits there. it does not even try to preheat or anything. i really hope i am doing something wrong and its not my printer that has an issue.

Reboot the printer (unplug power and USB)? Which firmware are you using?

I have tried rebooting the printer with no success. Sorry im such a NEWB. How does one check what firmware your printer is using?

No need to apologise! If you reboot, can you home all the axis? Can you manually heat up bed or nozzle?

Your firmware will be the factory firmware unless you have upgraded it. If you want to try a different custom firmware you can check firmware.jgmakerwiki.com - it’s very different but it is just as easy to return to the factory firmware.

Many owners of various makes of 3D printers have problems with SD cards - the printers like the old standard cards, not the newer, fast SDHC cards or similar - some people buy the cheapo Chinese 4GB or smaller SD cards from gearbest, aliexpress, etc.

The name escapes me, but you can download a free SD card formatter, that is said to format SD cards properly - unlike computer operating systems fat32 effort

I have a selection of high quality SD cards 4gb, 8gb, 16gb, formatted with windows in fat32 - some work fine, some do not work at all with 3D printers - I plan on getting some old standard ones from China

You could try downloading and installing the free program pronterface - it prints STL files over USB - could get you printing till you sort out your SD card issue

I would also download and install Cura 4.4x and set the profile to your printer type - it has various JGAurora optimized printer profiles included and should print over USB without a problem, and will save to SD card, provided the card is suitable for your printer

thank you guys for all the help. I have been trying to use Repetier with cura slicer but have recently discovered that the printer will only let me use its JGaurora program it came with. if i use the jgaurora program to save files to the sd card the printer sees the files and will print from the sd card. this kind of sucks because the jgaurora program is terrible. something about the way it saves the files to the sd card is somehow different.  im going to try and educate myself enough to flash a better firmware onto the printer in hopes that this will solve this issue.

I'm pretty sure that the supplied slicer JGcreate is simply a re-branded ancient version of cura

What you really need are some old style SD cards - maybe get some locally from used electronics stores, used mobile phone stores, thrift shops, or facebook marketplace

I'd also consider buying one of those SD to micro SD plug, cable, socket devices from Amazon, eBay, etc. so that you can try the old style SD cards

@MarkMarcum - please don’t get confused - the A5 is not the same as the A5S.

you've got that right. as i have found out they are very different animals. does any one have access to a parts list for the A5S? i would like to know what parts it has and what parts i can upgrade to. i would like to upgrade the cooking fan at the moment. there are quite a few things on thingiverse that say they are for the A5S but in fact are not.

Most of the parts should be compatible - the hotend assembly (cooling fan etc) are identical. Feel free to post here if you have specific questions and maybe we can find an answer.
