weird things on prints... stringing?? maybe

OK, I was printing a batch of the nose clips that keep fabric masks from fogging up glasses for my wife and I.
And on many of them I have these weird little needle like things sticking off at an angle. It doesn't look like stringing because it is not horizontal it is at about a 45 degree angle. and they are a lot thicker than I am used to strings being.
I have used 3 different filaments with the same gcode and had very similar results with each.
What is this and what causes it and how do I stop it to clean up prints like this?

Those weird looking things are a result of your retraction settings. You will most likely need to go into your slicer and increase your retraction distance.
Here's a good guide for common fixes (https://www.simplify3d.com/support/print-quality-troubleshooting/stringing-or-oozing/)
Thank you for the input.
