Sticky Y axis?

Hello, be grateful if anyone could put forward any suggestions. my 3yr old machine has got very difficult to move in the Y axis. discovered quite by accident, it doesnt seem to affect the printing but the force required to get it to move even when the machine is off is surprising. at a guess, 4x as resistant as the X axis. im certain it wasnt like that before. has anyone else noticed problems like this? im not sure at this stage, what is binding. i may have to strip it but its rather inconvenient right now. its not been dismantled since new.
