New---Having some trouble ever since I replaced filament

Hi!
So here it is; I bought it used, it had filament in it so i used it painlessly until that ran out. I bought abs thinking that it would be cool, it was not. I ended up with a mess burnt stuff and had to take the thing apart a few times to clean and fish clogs out. oay lesson learned, i got pla. Its extruding easy but makes a mess and i dont know why. Can anyone suggest
some things?
