Messy layers?

Anyone have ideas on what may be causing these gaps in my prints? Is it just the size of my layer height?

So I found the solution. I wanted to post it incase other come across this post trying to figure it out.

What happened was the z axis was out of alignment. I printed a simple z axis alignment tool and that fixed almost all the quality problems I was facing.
