Extrusion Problems

Hi everybody. I'm going to try and explain a problem that's been plaguing me for the last few prints. When my extruder moves to a new start point further away than 3" it will start out, not with a nice, full extrusion, only a thin, squiggly line for about an inch and then slowly start extruding normal as it goes. This ONLY happens if extruder head moves to a start point futher than 2 or 3"ย  ย anything closer to that its seems to start out normal. I need to have my start points at a certain point (in the back of my print) and its always worked for me on the past. Never had this issue but now its with every print. I've been lowering my retraction setting to a point where I get blobs at the start points. I've tried the "extra restart distance" setting but that screws it up if my start point is within the 2" movement scenario.ย
It would seem as if the filament is being retracted too far and then not exctruded the same distence when staring out again, but only when moving further then said distance.ย
ย  Using S3D and models I've printed before without issue. Temp is 190c on extruder. Tried different roll of filiment. What could possibly be my problem??
ย Is there a setting I'm missing in S3D that could fix this?ย
Here is a pic of what I'm talking about.ย  The missing line is where extruder started the inner perimeter but didn't extrude fully for about 1in. But like I said... This happened after 6" of movment

Hi Phil, I'm sorry to hear photo upload is not working for you.ย Are you trying to upload photos from a computer or a mobile device?ย

Regarding the issue, a photo would be quite helpful. 190C sounds too low to me, especially if you are using the factory firmware.

Is it always in the same spot? or is it always only on the first layer or all layers?

Trying upload on mobile. And yes I realize that most everybody else is printing pla at higher temp but when I've tried my print were a mess. I've had nothing but success with 190 except lately with this issue. And I cannot break my parts along the layers so its strong.ย
ย  Yes its one layer on top of the other for. Ill try add a pic on desktop. That print is over 1 1/2 high and still happening.ย

It's still failing to upload on desktop as well. Trying the image upload option as well as the file upload, and also dragging file in here wont work.
    Try this link: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1TTFG9BbwyBE3Y9y-QufIpYSIT6qvGJ3X/view?usp=drivesdk

This picture was taken of the print from the top down.ย
    Thanked by 1Samuel Pinches

I should mention I was printing petg yesterday and this wasn't happening. I had extruder move 13" and still had a nice start point.ย
ย Maybe I should try increasing my temp again on pla?

Sorry @philwald1184 , I have tested on safari, firefox and google chrome. May I ask which browser you are using? I'm really not sure why it wouldn't be working :(

Maybe try 195-205 and see how that goes?ย

When you upload a pic, do you get the blue progress bar at the top of the post?ย

Yes. And that runs through all the way and at the end it will say "the file failed to upload "ย  same on desktop

I think I've solved it!! Thanks for your patience @philwald1184! The forum server was not allocating enough memory to handle the processing of large images, even though I had set the upload size to be large enough.

Regarding the problem you're facing - do you hear any clicking or slipping from the extruder when this problem happens? Did you have much luck with a higher temp? Have you tried lubricating your filament - a simple rag or tissue with a few drops of vegetable oil, wrapped around the filament before the extruder motor with a bulldog clip, can reduce the friction in the PTFE tube during extrusion.

Yes the uploads are now working. No there's nothing from extruder. I havent had a chance to try a higher temp yet. But on last print I did I was watching filiment and extruder carefully and even tried helping it along into extruder at that point I knew it usually failed and it still happened. But extruder seems to do every thing right .Ill let you know on my next print if higher temp works...

Well I've tried temp at 200 and 205 on small models 8" apart and same thing happened. Takes about 1" of travel to have it extruding fully.ย
ย  I did mount my extruder direct over hot end but one would think that should be better in every way.
