Printer crashes

Hi guys,

Perhaps someone can help with this problem. I'm experiencing irregular printer crashes. Sometimes the printer just stops mid print, layer 3, 30 or 300. Different every time. Print head just sits there not moving, not extruding and starts cooling down. Any idea what can be the cause.

I tried updating the firmware, but the procedure didn't work for me. The printer did not detect the USB drive with the firmware file. Any instructions would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Sounds like a thermal error. You will not get any error message unless you update both LCD and main motherboard firmwares.

Did you follow the motherboard firmware install instructions here? https://jgaurorawiki.com/a5/firmware

There's only a USB stick involved when you are updating the LCD firmware, for which info is here https://jgaurorawiki.com/a5/lcd-firmware

mine was doing same. It was burned out hotbed connector...Check it first.

Turns out the bed and the heating element on the extrusion head are still hot when the printer crashes. it's "only" XYZ motion and the filament feed that stop. I'll follow your inputs. Thanks guys.

After some tests, I find it likely that the problem has to do with the USB connection. While printing, the vibration must make the USB stick momentarily loose contact with the pins resulting in faulty data transmission.
